Expect a four block walk at the minimum to the where the core of downtown is located. A walk-in shower would have been better (3) while it is ”downtown”, it is not right downtown like the other Marriott. (2) I think the tub was too shallow to take a bath, but the shower was a good one, but why have a tub if it's too shallow for a bath. The carpet under the unit was soaked a bit. We had to turn it off to sleep at night, but that worked because the temps here were mild. But, there are a couple of issues: (1) our room air conditioner had a loud pitched squeal every time it came on and the fan was noisy. Parking is inexpensive in a parking deck immediately adjacent. ![]() There is also a roof-top bar that was nice. There is a small bar in the lobby where you can get coffee and a breakfast in the morning or drinks from 5-10 pm. If you have password access to Prime and Netflix, those are available as well. The TV was large screen and HBO was included. Bathroom was very clean, which one would expect. There is a Keurig coffee maker and a min-fridge in the room. A two queen bed room had four, comfortable pillows for each bed. The bedroom is pretty spacious, and the beds were very comfortable. Because it is new, the facilities are clean, modern, and in great shape. There is a new Marriott hotel in downtown Winston-Salem, NC - the Courtyard by Marriott. Due to Covid, they did not have the Continental Breakfast as listed on their website, but did have a ”Grab and Go” bag with coffee and afternoon tea in the lobby area. The pool area was beautiful, although closed for the season. The room was spacious, extremely clean (the entire facility was immaculate), and the beds were very comfortable. The entire staff from Check In all the way to Maintenance were AMAZING! They went above and beyond to meet our needs, help us with my daughter and her wheelchair, and made us feel so welcome. On day of check out, we needed a late check out due to having to wait on our transportation, and again, very understanding and accommodating, no questions asked. Again, Hawthorne was very understanding and accommodating and moved us into a more comfortable room for her with no questions asked. ![]() The day of her surgery, we realized that our room was not going to be as accessible as we thought, so we needed to change rooms. They were very understanding and accommodating and still gave me the same rate. Due to other circumstances, the day before we were to check in, I needed to check in a day early. We also received another discount since we were there for the main purpose of the hospital. I reserved our room for our stay in advance, in which I received an early bird discount. ![]() Hawthorne was the closest to both, almost within walking distance to both. I needed a place close to the hospital and my daughters college for her surgery.
